If you drive one the A83 to get to your boat via the Rest and Be Thankful, there is a plan to close it for 4 years while they build a roof over the road to protect against avalanches. There is an uproar from local MPs, businesses and residents. The alternative rout will be a 24/7 convoy system on the lower old military road. I use the road often to get to my boat, so a bit pissed at this, but that's nothing, I assume, if you live there.
If minded to protest against this, there is a link to the petition at the end.
Perhaps this is the best value for the tax payer and at the end of the day the convoy temporary solution will just have to be used.
There are alternative options than the flat roofed lid that is proposed: -
1. A tunnel from butter bridge through the saddle and onto the old military road that would be upgraded.
2. A high-level flyover from honey moon bridge up the middle of the valley to the top of the saddle.
3. A road on the other side which is apparently more stable.
4. Convert the old military road from a single track to a two lane road.
5. Do nothing.
Local MPS have raised a petition to have the closure reviewed as they believe the disruption is untenable.

Update
According to Alan Reid, former Lib Dem MSP and candidate at the last MSP election, he has advised that the Scottish Government will now review the closure option. He also states that no budget has been assigned to build the road. However, I can't find any news on the SG web pages, so Alan Reid might be wrong on this.
